Motor Vehicle Policies

Parking zones:

1 Faculty and Staff

2 Students
Includes all dormitories, Fine Arts, Agriculture, Technology, Math/Science Complex, the street in front of the Library and  the Davey Whitney Complex. The street in front of Robinson Hall, Mable Thomas and W. S. Demby is a fire lane. Only park behind these dorms in the designated areas.

No Parking Zones:

  • Do not park, drive or walk on the grass.

  • Do not park in a handicap space without a valid handicap sticker. You must also be prepared and able to verify that the sticker belongs to either you or your passsenger.

  • Do not park where the curb is painted yellow.

Parking Decals:
Everyone who operates a vehicle on campus must purchase a parking decal. You must have a valid driver's license and show proof of insurance to purchase a decal. Parking or operating a vehicle on campus without a valid decal may result in a citation, a vehicle boot or your vehicle being towed at your expense.

Noise Pollution

Excessively loud and/or vulgar music coming from your car, your room or from a device in your possession will not be tolerated. The discretion of the investigating officer will determine what is excessive, and reasonable standards will be applied. However, as a matter of common courtesy, music should only be played loud enough for your personal enjoyment without infringing upon the rights of others.

Campus Housing Policies

Campus housing policies are defined clearly in the ASU Student Handbook and on the ASU web page under campus housing. Violations of those policies may result in penalties ranging from verbal warning, citation, disciplinary action which may result in suspension from the university to arrest and incarceration, depending upon the nature of the offense. Some of these violations appear below, consult your handbook for specifics.

Curfew:
Alcorn State University does allow visitation by males in female dormitories ONLY. Visitation ends promptly at _____, and males are not allowed in female rooms outside the specified times for any reason. Females ARE NOT allowed to visit male dorm rooms for any reason.

Trespassing:
Any person who is not a student of Alcorn State University, or is a student registered as off-campus, who enters a dorm room or other unauthorized dorm area without proper permission is trespassing. Males in female rooms outside visitation hours, or females in male rooms at any time are trespassing. Trespassing can result in disciplinary action for students and possible arrest for non students.

Physical Violence:
Physical violence, or fighting, destruction of another person's personal property and/or vandalizing university property will not be tolerated. Penalties include disciplinary action which may result in suspension from the university and possible arrest and incarceration.

Drug, Alcohol or Weapons Possession or Use:
It is illegal to possess, use, consume and/or distribute drugs, alcohol or weapons on this campus. These are extremely serious offenses which the university does not take lightly. Violation of this policy will result in suspension from the university and possible arrest and incarceration.

Stealing:
Taking personal or university property which does not belong to you without the owner's expressed permission is illegal and will not be tolerated. This extends to and includes identity theft. Violation of this policy will result in disciplinary action which may include suspension from the university and possible arrest and incarceration.
