KHEM KLUB
CONSTITUTION AND BYLAWS

Article I.             Name:  This organization, a part of Alcorn State University shall be known as                                             the Khem Klub.

Article II.           Purpose:  The purpose of the Khem Klub is to involve all Chemistry majors in the                                                study and research of their chosen discipline, to promote continuity of                                                           the discipline through achievement of a high caliber, to develop a good                                                relationship with faculty and former graduates, to seek out persons,                                                               and to attend meetings which have great influence on future                                                                              aspirations and hopes.

Article III.          Advisors and Advisory Board

Article IV.          Officers and Elections

Section I.             The Khem Klub shall have the following officers:  President, Vice-President,                               Secretary, Treasurer, Assistant Secretary,   Business Manager, Senator,                               Parliamentarian, Historian, and Reporter.

Section II.            Classification of officer's duties and responsibilities:

a.

President:  The President shall preside at all meetings of the
Khem Klub and  Executive Committee from a prepared  agenda.   He/She shall call meeting of the Executive  Committee and, as provided by Article __, Section __ of this   constitution, special meeting of the chapter.  He/She shall   appoint the chairman and members of all committees and be  ex-officio, a member of all except the nominating committee.  If a vacancy occurs among the officers, he/she, with the advice and consent of the Executive Committee shall appoint an eligible member to fill the office until the next election.

b.

Vice-President:  The Vice-President shall preside at meetings of the club and
of the Executive Committee in the absence of  the President and on such occasion as the President requests  him/her to do so.  In the case of a vacancy in the office of the President, the Vice-President shall succeed to the office for the unexpired term.

c.

Secretary:  The Secretary shall keep accurate record of the meetings of the
club and the Executive Committee, conduct official correspondence of the club and attach all amendments and changes in the Constitution to the official copy of this document, and shall notify all members of meetings of the club and of proposed amendments to the Constitution.

d.

Treasurer:  The Treasurer shall receive the dues of members, other money
from special fund raising projects, dispense monies as directed by the club or Executive Committee, and make a report of finances of the club at the following meeting.          

e.

Assistant Treasurer:  The Assistant Treasurer serves in the absence of the
treasurer or at the request of the treasurer.

f.

Assistant Secretary:  The Assistant Secretary serves in the absence of the
Secretary or at the request of the secretary.

g.

Business Manager:  The Business Manager acts on behalf of the club in doing
business with other agencies or individuals.

h.

Parliamentarian:  The Parliamentarian oversees the proper conduct of all
meetings.

i.

Senator:  The Senator is the organization's representative in the SGA.

j.

Historian:  The Historian shall record any events that may be significant in
the history of the club, file in the proper folder with dates and names.

       k.

Reporter:  The Reporter submits all news for current publication.

Section III.          Officers shall be elected annually.

Article V.           Meetings

Section I.            The Khem Klub shall meet two times each month during the regular school year.

Article VI.          Quorum

Section I.             The presence of more than 50% of the active membership shall constitute a                                                   quorum for the transaction of business.

Article VII.         Executive Committee

Section I.             There shall be an Executive Committee consisting of the officers, immediate past                               president, and three members at large elected by the club.

Section II.            The Executive Committee shall conduct (the) business as deemed necessary (of)                                     for the club between meetings.

Article VIII.        Penalties for Members (Fines, Probation, Suspension)

Section I.              All active members are required to attend 50% of all meetings held during the                                year.  Those who do nor meet this qualification are not eligible for awards.

Article IX.            Grade Point Averages

Section I.              Active members must maintain a cumulative grade point average of 2.0.

Article X.              Finances

Section I.               Membership Dues

                              a.  Active voting members annual dues are $20.00.
                              b.  Graduate active members annual dues are $25.00.
                              c.  Department Instructors annual dues are $20.00.
                              d.  Lifetime membership dues are $50.00.

Article XI.             Observations

Section I.                The Annual Awards Banquet shall be held in the month of April.   All forms of                                  credible achievement among the membership shall be recognized.

Article XII.            Membership

Section I.                There shall be four categories of membership:

                               a.   All Chemistry majors (undergraduates) are automatically Khem Klub                                      members.

                               b.   Any graduate student with a concentration in Chemistry may be a Khem                                      Klub member.

                               c.   All faculty members and former graduates of the department may be in the                                      category of Lifetime Members.      

                               d.   Honorary Lifetime membership, a category for any individual who the                                      organization deems instrumental in promoting the purpose of the                                                                    Khem Klub.

Article XIII.           Khem Klub Library

Section I.                The Khem Klub Library in association with the Department shall be                                                            maintained and upgraded by the club.

Article XIV.           The Directory

Section I.                The club shall update the Directory of the Khem Klub members and chemistry                                                graduates every two years (1984).

Article XV.            Amendment of Bylaws

Section I.                This Constitution may be amended by a majority vote of the membership                                  provided the amendment proposed (is) has been submitted in writing at a                                                previous meeting of the club, andspecifically announced in a call meeting at                                               which the action on the proposed amendment is to be taken.
