ASUNAA President’s Message
Dear fellow alumni, prospective alumni, and friends,
On behalf of the alumni of this great institution, it is my pleasure to extend greetings to you from the Alcorn State University National Alumni Association. The association exists, wholly and solely, to assist our alumni, students, and the University to succeed.
During these challenging times of Covid-19, we navigate to stay safe with our own families. Suddenly, we have lost touch with our Alcorn alums. The Alumni Association strives to help you stay connected by offering events that include hosting fireside chats with Alcorn’s President, Dr. Nave; sponsoring virtual happy hours to give members an opportunity to wind down; and holding our first virtual Mid-Winter Conference. We are dedicated to staying connected and keeping you informed until it is safe to gather again.
I am excited for the opportunity to serve the National Alumni Association. My goals for our organization include partnering with the University to expand relationships for better communication; working with alumni chapters for more cohesive fundraising opportunities; and building an engaging relationship with the current students, our prospective alumni. These initiatives will result in a stronger alumni organization for the long term.
At the same time, I would challenge you to think of ways you can give back to the University at whatever degree you are comfortable. There are many ways to give back…from monetary support to participating in career symposiums or volunteering time at on- and off-campus events to simply attending academic and social events. Lastly, let’s not forget athletics. Cheering for the Braves in whatever sport that appeals to you is always a fun and exciting way to connect with old friends and support the University.
As we embark on this new journey together, Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr.’s quote comes to mind, “The ultimate measure of a man is not where he stands in moments of comfort and convenience, but where he stands at times of challenge and controversy”. Alcorn has faced challenges before and weathered the storm. We will overcome today’s challenges. The Alcorn alumni family is huge and strong. We are the BRAVES!
Stay Brave Strong,
Anthony P. Tuggle, ‘93
