Have you or your family experienced a change in income or other special circumstances? If so, a professional judgment decision may be warranted. A financial aid professional may use professional judgment, only on a case-by case basis to change certain data elements used to calculate the effective family contribution (EFC). Professional judgment requests will not be accepted after the start of classes for fall semester (if enrolled fall) or start of classes for spring semester (if not previously enrolled fall semester).

One-Time Income/Loss of Untaxed Benefit

Due to the Coronavirus pandemic, I have experienced a one-time income/loss of untaxed benefit: In 2020-2021, you and/or your parent(s) received a one-time source of income such as: inheritance, moving expense allowance, back-year social security payments, severance pay package, IRA distribution or an untaxed income benefit such as child support or SSI has ceased or been reduced. Unusual High Out-Of-Pocket Medical/Dental Expenses Not Covered by Insurance

Due to the Coronavirus pandemic, I have experienced unusually high out-of-pocket medical/dental expenses: In 2020 or 2021, you and/or your parent(s) had unusually high medical expenses. Health insurance premiums can only be counted if they are not pre-tax. Bills paid with a health savings account cannot be counted as they have already reduced the AGI. Over the counter medicine cannot be included either. I can provide the following required documentation to support this request.

Documents required:

  • A letter detailing out of pocket expenses for either 2020 or 2021, not both years.
  • Documentation from insurance company showing how much was paid out of pocket for the year in question
