Alcorn excited to welcome Braves fans home for 2019 football season, issues reminders for enjoyable game day experience

Football season is upon us, and supporters of the 2018 SWAC Champions Alcorn State University Braves football team are primed and ready to flood Jack Spinks-Marino Casem Stadium at 6 p.m. on Saturday, Sep. 7 to watch the Braves take on the Mississippi College Choctaws in their first home game of the 2019 season. The university encourages fans to follow all guidelines and looks forward to providing the most enjoyable game day experience in the nation. We appreciate feedback and are constantly reviewing how best to ensure a festive and safe game day experience.

Alcorn State University president, Dr. Felecia M. Nave, is thrilled to attend her first home football game after returning home earlier this summer to lead the campus as the first female and twentieth president in the university’s 148-year history.

“We are truly excited to welcome all of the faithful Braves supporters back to campus for our first home game this year,” stated Nave. “Our game day team and staff have all been working overtime to prepare the campus so our students, alumni, fans and friends feel at home while enjoying a fun, memorable and winning game day experience. We look forward to seeing the Brave Nation Pack the Jack all year long!”

Parking

Fans planning to purchase campus parking on-site, the day of the game are reminded to have the correct funds readily available as they approach campus and to avoid prolonged conversation with parking attendants. This helps game day staff manage traffic on campus and reduces congestion. Guests who purchased parking in advance are asked to have their pass clearly visible and displayed so the attendant may promptly direct you to the proper parking lot. Premium, VIP and Purple parking are sold out for the season.

Be sure to read and follow the large, color-coded signs at the entrance to each respective parking lot. Fans who have purchased Reserved Premium parking, Reserved Tailgate, Purple parking, and VIP parking must park in their assigned and numbered parking spaces. It is important to make sure that you are in the correct lot and numbered parking space.

ADA Needs/Transport

Parking for persons with disabilities in a vehicle that has an official tag or placard is limited. The Morris-Boykin Agriculture Sciences Building parking lot is designated for disabled parking overflow.  Staff are available to assist disabled persons with cart transport to and from designated parking lot locations and stadium entrances before and after the game. Carts, routes and drop-off locations are identified with signage. Patience is requested due to the large number of requests and because carts travel at a slow rate of speed for safety.

Clear Bags

Alcorn will allow small transparent clutch bags no larger than 4.5 inches x 6.5 inches and bags at a maximum of 12 inches x 6 inches x 12 inches or a one-gallon clear plastic freezer bag. Bags that are necessary for medical purposes are permitted but still subject to search. No other bags or purses, including diaper bags that are not clear, will be permitted.

Prohibited bags include, but are not limited to purses larger than a clutch bag, briefcases, backpacks, cinch bags, fanny packs that are not clear and/or exceed the size restriction, luggage of any kind, computer bags/cases, camera bags/cases, binocular bags/cases or any bag larger than the permissible size. All items, including clear bags and clutch purses, are subject to search at all gates. No items can be left or stored at the gates.

Tobacco, Smoke, and Vape Free Campus

Guests are also reminded that Alcorn has declared all University property, facilities and vehicles to be tobacco, smoke and vape free. This initiative has been implemented to promote and protect the health and wellness of all faculty, staff, students, alumni, and guests. Smoking and the promotion or use of tobacco products and vapes is prohibited outdoors on all Alcorn campus property including parking lots, paths, fields, recreational areas, stadiums, and personal vehicles while on campus.

Sports Betting/Wagering

Fans, boosters, and everyone in the college sports community must know that sports betting by those close to student-athletes can and will put universities and individual athletes at risk of violating NCAA rules. Alcorn's highest priority is to safeguard the wellbeing of our student-athletes and the integrity of intercollegiate competition. The continued cooperation and support of the Alcorn family helps all to compete at the highest levels of intercollegiate athletics.

Tickets may be purchased online at www.impacttickets.com. Keep in mind that no All-Terrain Vehicles (ATVs), drones, or artificial noisemakers are allowed on campus. Also, the Follett Campus Bookstore will open from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. on Saturday and bringing adequate cash for concessions purchases is encouraged.

Finally, all other existing game-day rules and regulations remain in effect. Fans should review the updated Fan Guide and stay tuned to the University website and Athletics website for any updates or changes.
