Alcorn President Named to Presidents & Chancellors Leadership Group for MOAA

Dr. Felecia M. Nave, president of Alcorn State University, has been named to the Presidents & Chancellors Leadership Group (P&CLG) for Minority Opportunities Athletic Association (MOAA).

According to a press release, the P&CLG assists MOAA in developing a shared focus on initiatives to enhance educational opportunities involving diversity, equity, and inclusion and intercollegiate athletics operations, sharing information on trends in higher education and potential impact to intercollegiate athletics, developing strategies to promote diversity in athletic search processes from a presidential perspective, and sharing best practices for enhancing diversity in a constantly evolving intercollegiate athletic environment.

“It is an honor to be selected to serve in this important initiative, especially at this historical juncture of the current conversation on race and equity,” said Nave. “I look forward to working with my colleagues from across the nation as we work to build far-reaching pathways by developing comprehensive strategies to enhance leadership opportunities and fostering diversity and inclusion that will ultimately strengthen our institutions of higher learning.”

Nave has dedicated her professional career to serving at HBCUs, which has given her a diverse perspective and broad understanding of HBCU culture and tradition. She has spent nearly 20 years as an innovative educator and leader in complex collegiate environments. In addition, she brings strategic focus and vision to student-related functions—recruitment, admissions, financial aid, athletics, student engagement and retention—in support of the academic mission.

Other presidents and chancellors serving on the advisory group are Dr. Dan Mahony, Southern Illinois University System; Dr. Neeli Bendapudi, University of Louisville; Dr. Mark Lombardi, Maryville University; and Dr. Michael Sorrell, Paul Quinn University. The five-member group has been charged with supporting the mission of MOAA and providing advisement and guidance to the Executive Committee to advance diversity, equity, and inclusion efforts.
