Alcorn professor receives 2020 COSBAE Outstanding Young Professional Award

The Committee on the Opportunities and Status of Blacks in Agricultural Economics (COSBAE) has presented the 2020 Outstanding Young Professional Award to Dr. Anthony Baffoe-Bonnie, assistant professor of agricultural economics, School of Agriculture and Applied Sciences. Each year this award recognizes individuals for their outstanding contributions to research, teaching, extension, and the agricultural economics profession. Baffoe-Bonnie was unanimously selected based on his research performance and commitment to improving the lives of small farmers.

“I am very excited about this accomplishment because it motivates me to continue to work hard and improve my research,” he said. “Also, given that my overall goal is to enhance small farmers’ efficiency and livelihoods, I am happy that seasoned researchers have recognized my contributions to the field.”

Baffoe-Bonnie was acknowledged for his achievements during the 2020 Agricultural and Applied Economics Association’s (AAEA) annual meeting, which, due to the pandemic, was held virtually.

His research has focused on how technology adoption, intervention programs, and production conditions impact small farmers’ technical efficiency and welfare. When asked about the future, he expounded on his desire to advance his current research, continue working with small farmers, and make more positive impacts throughout his life and profession.
