Braves presented 2018 SWAC Football Championship Rings

The Alcorn State Braves football team was welcomed with a nice surprise on Sunday afternoon following the annual student athlete convocation. Just in time and before kicking off their 2019 season, the team and coaches were presented their 2018 SWAC Football Championship rings.

The Braves finished the regular season with a 9-3 record and became the first-ever institution to host the SWAC Championship Game and also the first-ever school to play in five consecutive SWAC title games – a league record.

Following remarks from former interim president Donzell Lee, President Felecia M. Nave was joined by head football coach Fred McNair and director of Athletics Derek Horne in presenting each player his ring as his name was called.

"I can’t explain how I feel right now. I can’t even put it into words. I just want to thank everybody who helped make this finally happen," said fifth year senior and 2019 SWAC pre-season offensive player of the year Noah Johnson after his face lit up with excitement after opening the ring box and placing the ring on his finger.

"This is amazing and definitely makes us want to get another one this year! Thank you, thank you, thank you, especially to Dr. Nave." said fifth year senior and all-conference kicker Corey McCullough.

It was the team’s 16th conference championship in school history and the third SWAC championship in the last five years.
