Kelvin Carter named vice president of programs for St. Louis organization, Unleashing Potential
An Alcorn State University alumnus has gained a leading position with an organization in the state of Missouri.
Kelvin Carter, who earned a bachelor's degree in industrial technologies in 1997, was recently named vice president for Unleashing Potential in St. Louis.
Unleashing Potential has a long history of serving children and their families in St. Louis. Its mission is to close the opportunity gap for children and youth by building on their strengths. The organization creates educational and empowering experiences through early childhood education, after-school programs, youth development, and enrichment camps.
Carter shared how he plans to uplift the 1,800 students that participate in the organization.
"My plan to uplift the population we serve will include placing quality individuals in the direct service of these students. My second goal is to ensure students are met with a positive and assured attitude. Our students need support to overcome any barriers they may face," stated Carter.
Because of his parents' influence (both, of which, are Alcornites), Carter pictured himself shaping young minds. It was destined for him to follow his current career path.
"I had two great examples along with a true village of people in my community that imparted the thoughts around always wanting to see others reach their maximum potential. What I found in education was a daily opportunity to help students develop the skills necessary to live their best life. At Unleashing Potential, I truly feel I am on a team that is dedicated to the success and well-being of all the families and students that we serve on a daily basis."
Carter also stated that Alcorn taught him that patience, hard work, and a willingness to collaborate to get the job done were needed in whatever career path he would pursue.
