President Felecia M. Nave appointed to the USDA-1890 Task Force
Alcorn State University President Felecia M. Nave is one of five HBCU leaders selected to highlight the successes of schools of agriculture.
Nave was appointed to the USDA-1890 Task Force, which explores cooperative frameworks, partnership opportunities, and priority areas. The task force is a joint council of the U.S. Department of Agriculture (USDA) and 1890 Land-Grant University officials that provides leadership to advance USDA and 1890 Land-Grant Universities’ mutually beneficial goals.
Nave is honored to be in a position to advance the innovative programs and achievements of Alcorn and the schools that classify as 1890 Land-Grant Universities.
“I am proud to be a graduate of the oldest land-grant HBCU in the nation and honored to be serving today as its president. As these institutions celebrate their 130th anniversary this week, they have historically provided equitable access to education and produced talented students, essential research, and state-of-the-art practices in agriculture and STEM disciplines. I’m excited about the opportunity to serve on this task force and forward the ongoing contributions of these institutions.”
Nave will join Tuskegee University President Lily D. McNair, Southern University and A&M College President Ray Belton, Kentucky State University President M. Christopher Brown II, and Langston University President Kent Smith on the task force.
The 19 land-grant universities established under the second Morrill Act of 1890 are invaluable sources of diverse professionals who work in agriculture and related disciplines.
