Presidential Inauguration events kick off today
Events for the historic inauguration of Alcorn State University President Felecia M. Nave kicked off earlier today with fun, food, and activities.
The Student Government Association hosted the Inauguration Celebration on the Yard in the Dr. Clinton Bristow Jr. Dining Facility. Students, faculty, and staff convened to celebrate Nave on her momentous accomplishment. The event included a DJ, a talent show, and other activities.
Patrick Mason, SGA president, was proud to play a role in Nave’s celebration. He said that not only was it an honor, but also a learning experience in strategic planning.
“Being able to help President Nave with her inauguration before I graduate was an honor,” said Mason. “I was able to see the ends and outs of how to plan a major event for the University.”
Today’s events will continue with the Inaugural Women of Courage Award Ceremony from 6 – 8 p.m. at the Vicksburg Convention Center in Vicksburg, Mississippi. The event will be live-streamed on Alcorn’s website, Facebook page, and YouTube.
Thursday’s events will include the Danish & Coffee Conversations with the President event from 8:30 – 10 a.m. in the J. D. Boyd Library Auditorium on the Lorman campus, followed by the Inaugural President Lecture Series, which will also be live-streamed, from 2 – 3 p.m. at the MBA Building Auditorium on Alcorn’s Natchez Campus. A reception will follow the event, followed by the Presidential Diner from 6:30 – 8:30 p.m. in the Dr. Clinton Bristow Jr. Dining Facility Gold Room.
On Friday, April 16, the Investiture of the 20th President – Dr. Felecia M. Nave, also live-streamed, will be held at noon at the Oakland Memorial Chapel. Friday’s other events include the Inauguration Reception from 2 – 4 p.m. at the Alumni House and Campus Green and the Inauguration Fireworks Celebration from 6:30 – 8:30 p.m. at the Jack Spinks – Marino Casem Stadium.
The inauguration concludes with an invite-only Reception (6:30 – 7:30 p.m.) and a Gala (7:45 – 10 p.m.) at the Westin Hotel, located on 407 Congress St. in Jackson, Mississippi.
