School of Nursing to spread breast cancer and diabetes awareness at upcoming event

Alcorn State University’s School of Nursing will host an event that will focus on breast cancer and diabetes education.

The School will spread awareness on the illnesses during their Saving Breasts & Putting Diabetes To Rest free health event Wednesday, Oct. 25 in the James L. Bolden Campus Union from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Education on both topics, as well as screenings, will be available to those who participate.

Dr. Geraldine Young, assistant professor for the Graduate Nursing Program at Alcorn, hopes to inspire others to be more health conscious.

“Let’s make this a big success as with everything else at Alcorn,” said Young. “We will be leading breast cancer month out and bringing diabetes awareness month in.”

Young encourages others, especially healthcare professionals who are also Alcornites, to join the cause and give back to the Alcorn community.

“Any alumni healthcare professionals interested in giving back to our great university are welcomed to contact me for more information.”
