Alcorn issues game day reminders and guidance for 2018 SWAC Championship game

Alcorn State University and the Southwestern Athletic Conference (SWAC) are anticipating a strong showing of fans for the 2018 SWAC Football Championship Game on Sat. Dec. 1 at 3:30 p.m. in Lorman, Mississippi at Jack Spinks-Marino Casem Stadium. We look forward to providing a wonderful experience for this first-ever event and present the following guidance and reminders to attendees.

General Admission tickets are still available for purchase. Fans are strongly encouraged to Purchase Tickets Online in advance and arrive as early as possible to the campus. All Premium, Reserved Tailgate, Reserved RV and VIP Parking spaces are sold out. General Event Parking (Green) $20, General Tailgate $60 and Bus/RV Overflow $100 are the only parking options still available for purchase. Both the Home Side and Visitors Side Ticket Windows will open at 7 a.m. A designated Will Call Window is located at each booth. Gates will open at 1 p.m. All tickets and parking sales are final and no refunds or exchanges will be permitted.

Alcorn is a tobacco and smoke-free campus and enforces a clear bag policy for athletics events. Transient merchandise and food vendors (licensed or unlicensed) are prohibited from selling on the University campus. Additionally, drones are strictly prohibited. The university will not honor the MHSAA pass card for this event.

Campus Police are requesting all students to keep their vehicles parked at their respective residence halls from Midnight Friday, Nov. 30 through Midnight Saturday, Dec.1. To help accommodate traffic flow and fan movement to the game, a shuttle service loop route will transport fans between the stadium parking lot, Davey Whitney Gym, New Parking Lot and the Walter Washington Administration Building. Additionally, designated golf carts with blue signage will be available in the immediate vicinity of the stadium to transport those needing assistance.

As a safety precaution, fans are requested to slow speeds, obey traffic laws and encouraged to park on the campus paved lots as much as possible. Parking on grass is discouraged due to the potential for extremely wet weather. We especially ask drivers to use their “Brave Eyes” and be on the lookout for pedestrians along roadways and in parking lots. Additional law enforcement personnel, including state troopers, will be on hand to assist with traffic management and crowd control. Please follow the instructions of all law enforcement officials and park in assigned or numbered spaces.

Game Day patrons should familiarize themselves with Alcorn’s traffic patterns and any adjustments implemented. All traffic will proceed as signs and officials direct. Three lanes off Highway 552 Bypass will be utilized to enter the new Special Event Parking Facility. The new Special Event Parking Facility is designated as the General Event Parking Lot (Green). There are no reserved spaces nor is tailgating allowed in the new lot. Grills, tents, lawn chairs, and unauthorized motorized vehicles and carts are not allowed in the parking lot. Additionally, no RVs, semi-trucks, travel trailers nor campers may park or overnight in the facility.

Visitors approaching the campus and wish to use the General Event Parking Lot (Green) should veer/keep right at the fork on to the Highway 552 Bypass to access the new Special Event Parking Facility. The university has implemented an electronic parking pass and tailgate pass system for this game. All parking passes will be scanned one time. Only one pass per vehicle is allowed. Do not duplicate or share passes. Those who attempt to manipulate or abuse the system will be asked to leave or subject their vehicle(s) to being towed.

Tailgaters are reminded that setup begins at 12 noon on Friday, Nov. 30 and are requested to park or set up in their assigned space only and may be asked to display a valid tailgate pass prior to set up. General Tailgate areas will be marked with signage and allows for two (2) standard sized tents. The IT Parking Lot is designated a General Tailgate lot. Once filled to a safe capacity, tailgaters will be directed to other areas by staff. All tailgating equipment (trailers, tents, grills, chairs, etc.) must be removed from the campus by midnight on game day. No caution tape, flags, or other cordoning devices are allowed.

The RV Reserved parking lot opens at 8 a.m. Friday, Nov. 30 and closes Sunday, Dec. 2 at noon. The lot allows for one RV per pass and comes with water and electrical hookups. Reserved RV customers are asked to please park in their numbered space. If traveling with a tow, it must be attached to the RV upon entering the lot. The RV Dry Camp Overflow is a general parking area and the same rules as the Reserved RV Lot apply. There are no water or electrical hookups in the RV Dry Camp Overflow lot.
