Alcorn to hold Grand Opening of new Student Athlete Center

The Alcorn State University Student Athlete and the Family Enhancement (S.A.F.E.) Center Ribbon Cutting and Grand Opening is scheduled for Friday, Oct. 19 at 10 a.m. on Alcorn’s main campus in Lorman, Mississippi. 

The Alcorn S.A.F.E. Center is an elite academic support, personal development and refueling facility dedicated to serving student athletes and their families. 

The center boasts as one of the finest student-athlete academic support facilities in HBCU college athletics offering a state-of-the-art computer lab, multi-media technology tools, group and individual study spaces, a professional clothing closet and a well-appointed refueling lounge that features a nutrition bar with Vitamix blenders, icemaker, stainless steel freezers and double glass fridge along with a wide range of healthy food and snacks. 

For recreation, the lounge is outfitted with plush, modern furnishings, a digital scorekeeping air hockey table, four 40-inch flat screen televisions for video-gaming and 4K projection onto a 10’x13’ screen complete with surround sound. 

With the goal of enhancing the whole student-athlete experience, the center intersects with various campus units and the community to incorporate innovative programming that challenges participants to reach their full potential, maintain personal and academic integrity and become well-prepared for success in life.
