Alcorn to open new Special Event Parking Facility
Just in time for High School Day and the home football game versus Texas Southern University on Saturday, Sept. 15, Alcorn State University will open its newest parking facility on the Lorman campus. Reflecting the school’s focus toward growth and accommodation for large scale events, the new 500-space SpecialEvent Parking Facility will help serve the needs of the university for graduations, convocations, athletics and other special events.
The parking facility, constructed as part of a Mississippi Department of Transportation (MDOT) highway traffic congestion relief project, will afford special event patrons more convenient access to enter and exit the campus off the Highway 552 Bypass. With the opening of the facility, the university will also now have the availability of three paved, well-lit and controlled campus access points during large events. Visitors are encouraged to note the new green, permanent highway directional signage identifying campus entranceways.
Game Day guests should familiarize themselves with the new facility’s rules along with traffic patterns and adjustments. The facility has been designated as the General Event Parking Lot (Green) and the vehicle parking cost is $15. There are no reserved spaces and tailgating is not allowed in the facility. Grills, tents, lawn chairs, and unauthorized motorized vehicles and carts are not allowed in the parking lot. Additionally, no RVs, travel trailers nor campers may park or overnight in the facility.
Traffic adjustments will be approached in the safest manner possible through a collaborative effort between the Alcorn Campus Police, MDOT, Mississippi Highway Safety Patrol, and other local, county, and state law enforcement partners. Personnel will be present to assist in directing traffic. All traffic will proceed as signs and officials direct. Three lanes off Highway 552 Bypass will be utilized to enter the Special Event Parking Facility.
Visitors approaching the campus, who wish to use the General Event Parking Lot (Green – $15), should keep right at the fork on to the Highway 552 Bypass to access the new Special Event Parking Facility.
The university has also adopted a new color code system and signage to help identify the various parking lots and entrances utilized on Game Day:
Gold VIP, Bus, and RV Parking South (Main) Entrance
Purple Purple Seat Parking South (Main) Entrance
Blue Premium Reserved Parking South (Main) Entrance
Red Reserved Tailgate Parking South (Main) Entrance
Gray General Tailgate and Media South (Main) Entrance
Green General Event Parking Access Road/North (Back) Entrance
NOTE: Only General Tailgate (Gray – $40), General Event Parking (Green – $15) and Bus/RV (RV Gold – $60) parking passes are available for sale on Game Day. All Red and Blue Lots are sold out for the 2018 season.
