Alcorn’s Alphas deliver donations to homeless shelter

The Delta Kappa chapter of Alpha Phi Alpha Fraternity, Inc. spent the Christmas holiday break delivering clothing, blankets, and toiletries to the less fortunate.

The donations were collected during the organization’s annual homeless initiative back in October. The activity garnered its biggest turnout ever as they received more gifts than expected.

Brandon Corbin, a member of the fraternity and Baton Rouge, Louisiana native, contributed by donating a portion of the donations to Youth Oasis in his hometown. There, they take in homeless people and runaways.

Tekoah Boatner, executive director for Youth Oasis, appreciated the gesture.

“I did not expect all of these contributions. It’s the most I have received in a while, and I appreciate the young man who brought everything in,” said Boatner.

The fraternity still has more donations to deliver in the coming weeks. They will be distributed to shelters adjacent to Alcorn.

To continue their giving spirit, the organization will host future activities to gain more aid for the less fortunate in the community.

“Every donation counts, so we are making sure that we keep our word in making these deliveries and hope that they can benefit others,” said Joshua Evans, president of the Alpha Phi Alpha Fraternity, Inc.
