Alcorn’s Jazz Festival receives positive reviews

The 38th Annual Alcorn State University Jazz Festival featuring Chick Corea was held Saturday, April 14 at the Vicksburg Convention Center. 

The daylong celebration featured performances by students, professional jazz musicians, and university, college and secondary school jazz ensembles from throughout the United States. 

After the various morning workshops, students were allowed to show multiple things learned in an evening concert amongst their peers and other spectators. Th evening concluded with a performance from Grammy award-winning musician Chick Corea. Alcorn State University professor of Music and Jazz Festival Director, Dr. David Miller, directs the annual Festival. 

Alcorn State University jazz band participant Brian Echols, senior music major, stated " This was truly a thrill of a lifetime. If you want some real music, you need to come check out the Jazz Festival every year. If you would like to see us, we will be back next semester."

Ivory Lloyd, graduating senior music major stated, "This is my first Alcorn Jazz festival, and I am looking forward to performing next year. It is amazing, and I would encourage everyone to come check this out every year."
