Alumni, faculty and staff show their support at Purple and Gold Day

On Tuesday, March 6 at the Mississippi State Capitol in Jackson, Mississippi, Alcorn State University alumni, faculty, staff and supporters gathered to advocate for the funding of the University.

“I know we said today is a good day to be an Alcorn State University Brave, but I say everyday is a good day to be an Alcorn state University Brave,” stated Dr. Alfred Rankins Jr., President of Alcorn State University.

Tuesday’s event opened with Alcorn's administration and alumni leaders being honored with an opportunity to make a presentation on the floor of the Mississippi Senate. Following the opener, alumni were invited to a special briefing entitled, “Coffee and Conversation,” which was led by Mr. Marcus Ward, vice president for Institutional Advancement. Other senators from throughout the state spoke to alumni about their current advocacy for the University. Amongst those speaking were District 13, State Senator and Alcorn alumnus Willie Simmons.

After the coffee briefing, alumni were given a chance to locate respective representatives and senators from their home (city/county) district to share the importance of supporting the 2018 Alcorn legislative priorities agenda. Alumni, faculty and guest were then allowed to mix and mingle around lunch in the Capitol Rotunda.

The afternoon events concluded on the floor of the house with a special presentation given to the house by President Rankins.
