Dr. Keith McGee selected to serve as interim provost and executive vice president for Academic Affairs

One of Alcorn State University’s leaders in the Department of Agriculture was recently appointed to serve on the president’s cabinet.

Dr. Keith McGee was named interim provost and executive vice president for Academic Affairs in January. In this role, McGee will serve as a chief academic officer and is responsible for the formulation and implementation of academic plans, policies, priorities, and innovation. In addition to providing educational leadership for the university, McGee will promote the academic mission through university-wide planning and evaluation.

McGee recently served as director of the Center for Biotechnology and associate dean for Research and Administration for the School of Agriculture and Applied Sciences. As a director, McGee was responsible for the day-to-day operation of the program, including budgeting, operational protocols, recruitment, and advising, amongst other duties. As associate dean, his responsibilities included providing leadership for research programs and empowering faculty in developing and conducting cutting-edge research.

McGee earned a doctorate in molecular biology from the University of Southern Mississippi and a bachelor’s degree in biology from Mississippi Valley State University.

Better serving the Alcorn community is McGee’s mission. He looks forward to playing a significant role in the advancement of the university.

The appointment shows President Felecia M. Nave’s belief in McGee’s ability to bring forward-thinking ideas that will benefit the university.

“I am confident that Dr. McGee will continue to serve the University with excellence in this new role,” said Nave. “I greatly appreciate his willingness to assume these additional responsibilities and provide leadership for academic programs.”
