Dr. LaShawn Thompson presents at the Mississippi Counseling Association Conference

Dr. LaShawn Thompson, an assistant professor of psychology at Alcorn State University, recently displayed her expertise during an annual conference for counselors.

Dr. LaShawn Thompson, along with the Human Rights Committee, presented at the Mississippi Counseling Association Conference Wednesday, Nov. 7 through Friday, Nov. 9 in Biloxi, Mississippi.

Within their presentation, Thompson and her colleagues assisted participants in recognizing personal biases and understanding a counselor’s ethical behavior in light of personal bias and a current movement of exclusion.

With her promotion to the chair of the Association, Thompson is able to shed more light on topics of interest in the counselor’s circuit. She looks forward to spreading more information that would benefit everyone involved.

"It is an honor to be chosen to be the chair of the Mississippi Counseling Association's Human Rights Committee,” said Thompson. “As a member of the group for three years, I have served the organization by offering quality ethics presentations to the community. Now, as chair, I am privileged to lead a great team of individuals and we hope to continue to offer quality services to counselors, educators, and service providers in this state."
