Dr. LaShawn Thompson to present at the Mississippi Counseling Association in April

A professor from Alcorn State University’s School of Education and Psychology will give a presentation during a counseling conference in April.

Dr. LaShawn Thompson, an assistant professor of psychology will participate in the Mississippi Counseling Association’s annual Human Rights Committee Ethics Workshop Friday, April 5 at the Hinds Behavioral Health Services in Jackson, Mississippi.

Thompson, along with a few other counseling professionals, will assist participants in recognizing personal biases and understanding a counselor’s ethical behavior in light of personal bias and a current movement of exclusion.

Thompson gave a brief breakdown of what she and her collegues will discuss during the workshop.

“Presenters will assist with reaffirming the counselor’s responsibility towards inclusion of all individuals that seek services and will be presented with some skills to assist counselors in providing appropriate services for all , as well as learning how counselors can advocated for various marginalized groups,” said Thompson.

An admissions fee of $20 is for five hours of Ethics Credit. Fees can be paid at the time of onsite registration.
