Dr. Tameka Winston selected as interim associate vice president of Research and Institutional Advancement at Tennessee State University

With her latest accomplishment, Dr. Tameka Winston, an Alcorn State University alumna provides an example of what greatness Alcornites can achieve. 

Winston is the interim associate vice president of Research and Institutional Advancement at Tennessee State University in Nashville. Her new duties include working with the vice president of Research and Institutional Advancement in carrying out special projects and initiatives that further the growth and development of TSU. Her job also consists of the marketing and branding of university scholarship, creative activity, and university initiatives.

Being promoted has been a humbling experience for Winston. She's excited about tackling the new role while continuing to steer the university in a positive direction with her media skills.

"I am extremely humbled to have been chosen by TSU's administration to serve as interim associate vice president of Research and Institutional Advancement, as well as the privilege of continuing as chair of the Department of Communications," said Winston. "My background and experience as a mass communication scholar, author, marketing and branding expert, media producer, and administrator have prepared me well for this new role."

The position grants Winston the ability to focus on marketing strategies that would propel TSU to the next level.

"My unique dual role at the university will allow me to work with each unit in marketing and branding research and sponsored program initiatives, creating partnerships with media organizations and others, and enhancing the media production and media distribution capabilities at the university, in the region, and throughout the nation and world."

Balancing numerous leadership roles has become standard on Winston's successful professional journey. She gives credit to her staff for assisting her with her daily duties.

"I have a competent administrative team that will work with me on the day-to-day activities of each unit, allowing me to focus on major projects and initiatives."

Winston looks forward to working with her new team to enhance multiple TSU departments. In the midst of her newfound success, she's also thinking about her professional pursuits in the future.

"My immediate goal is to work effectively with the vice president of Research and Institutional Advancement and the dean of the College of Liberal Arts in achieving the goals of both research and sponsored programs and the Department of Communications while advancing the initiatives of the university as a whole. My long-term goals are to continue growing as an administrator with hopes of becoming a university provost and president."
