Library staff serves Thanksgiving dinner to local senior citizens

Staff members at Alcorn State University’s J. D. Boyd Library treated local senior citizens to an early Thanksgiving meal.

The staff members hosted the Thanksgiving Celebration Wednesday, Nov. 14 at the Ecology and Natural Resource Center Conservatory. Senior citizens from Claiborne and Jefferson County nursing homes were served.

Micheal Strawberry, acquisitions librarian said that the community service project was their way of paying homage to those who came before them.

“We want to make sure that everyone have a happy Thanksgiving, especially our senior citizens,” said Strawberry. “They mean a lot to us because they paved the way for us to find success today. This is our way of giving back and showing our appreciation for them.”

Joanna Williams, reference librarian believes the initiative sheds light on what’s going on at the University.

“This is an outreach program that will boost the Library’s exposure,” said Williams. “Our community service initiative will display what resources we have to offer, and it will show how caring Alcorn is.”
