Maurice Haynes helping others through "Nike the World" campaign

A coalition formed by one of the world's biggest athletic brands and a former NFL star turned social activist influenced one Alcorn State University alumnus to lend his support through charity.

Maurice Haynes, who earned a bachelor's degree in 2008 and a master's degree in 2009 from Alcorn, recently supported Nike's collaboration with ex NFL quarterback Colin Kaepernick, by purchasing Nike products for the less fortunate and random people in Hattiesburg, Mississippi.

Haynes praised Colin Kaepernick and Nike's partnership. He believes that the platform will bring awareness to Kaepernick's cause.

"I felt that it was important to show support of Nike because they partnered with a man who stands for equality," said Haynes. "Colin Kaepernick has a strong message and beliefs similar to my own, so I wanted to show my support for his cause. He is bringing awareness to some of the injustices we face in America so that a positive change can be made."

Witnessing Kaepernick's quest to enforce equality and end police brutality by kneeling during the National Anthem inspired Haynes to support Nike's partnership with the ex NFL quarterback.

"Colin Kaepernick motivates me to stand up for what is just and right, and to do what he stands for, which is believing in something even if it means sacrificing everything."

The initiative not only gave Haynes the opportunity to support Nike, but it also allowed him to spread positivity to his neighbors.

"It is a blessing to be able to bless others. I was able to support Nike and give back to my community all at once. I believe that to be blessed; you have to bless others."

With his gesture, Haynes aspires to encourage others to reach out and assist those in need.

"I hope my message will motivate other people to do the same by giving back to their community and also support Nike and Kaepernick in his quest for equality for all people."
