Supportive Alcornites recognized at All For One Giving Mid-Campaign Breakfast

Alcorn State University faculty and staff that donated to the University were honored for their generous giving during the annual charity event.

The All For One Mid-Campaign Breakfast was held Tuesday, April 3 in the James L. Bolden Student Union Ballroom to show appreciation to those who have given to the All For One Giving Campaign. Donors were rewarded for their annual giving with a certificate. The Alcorn Jazz Combo performed selections for the crowd.

Moriah Batiest, a Chicago, Illinois native and business administration major who has benefited from ASU Foundation, Inc. donors, thanked the donators for their assistance.

"Since enrolling at Alcorn, I have received numerous scholarship opportunities that have benefitted me tremendously," said Batiest. "I have received three internships through the Thurgood Marshall College Fund's partnership with Alcorn. I thank Alcorn and all of the Foundation donors for making my experience at the University one to remember."

Latasha Goods, an administrative assistant for the Office of Human Resources, spoke about her journey at Alcorn, and why she gives back to her alma mater without hesitation.

"Alcorn has done wonders for me professionally and educationally," said Goods. "It has been a blessing for Alcorn to assist me with two of the most important things in my life, which are my job and education. So giving back is the least I can do."

Babu Patlolla, dean for the School of Arts and Sciences, said that he feels it's his duty to give to the University that has given so much to him during his 21-year career.

"I've been working here for 21 years, and I love this place. It's only natural to donate to Alcorn because I want to maintain my strong connection with the University. It's my way of showing my appreciation."

Marcus Ward, vice president for Institutional Advancement and executive director for the ASU Foundation, Inc., praised faculty and staff for their donations.

"Because of your continuous checking, we have realized so many wonderful accomplishments here at our dear Alcorn," said Ward. "We've realized great accomplishments in academia, research, and athletics. It's encouraging to know that you donate to the Foundation. When you put your money where your mouth is and support the Magna Cum Laude of HBCUs, you are making an enormous difference in our future."

President Alfred Rankins Jr. also gave credit to faithful supporters of Alcorn for their dedication to pushing the University forward.

"We celebrate you who have made the decision to give back freely to an institution that has not only had a profound impact on the state of Mississippi but this nation as well," said Rankins. "Your steadfast commitment to ensuring that Alcorn continues to thrive in the 21st century is remarkable."
