University of Buffalo’s summer legal exposure program prepares Sophomore Tra’Keyvion Hale for career in law
A sophomore at Alcorn State University spent four weeks of his summer preparing for a future legal career.
Tra’Keyvion Hale, a political science major from Magnolia, Mississippi, was one of 16 students selected to participate in the 2019 Discover Law Undergraduate Scholars Program at the University of Buffalo’s School of Law in Amherst, New York this summer. Hale was also named a Letro Scholar at the program for his excellent grades and academic achievements.
Recognizing the shortage of minorities entering the field of law, the School created the program to provide an immersive experience for undergraduates interested in pursuing a career in law, expose students to critical thinking, and help them develop reading and analytical skills, and provide an in-depth experience.
Hale gave credit to his experience at Alcorn for equipping him for what the program offered.
“Alcorn prepared me for this experience by exposing me to such a variety of people who came from different backgrounds. Alcorn also prepares its students to compete all over the world.”
The experience made such an impression on Hale that he is considering furthering his education there in the future.
“Participating in this program made me realize how much I want to be a lawyer and policy maker. I had such a wonderful experience at the University of Buffalo’s School of Law. I am considering furthering my education there upon completion of my undergraduate years at Alcorn.”
At the end of the program, Hale and the others participated in a closing ceremony where they recounted their experiences to faculty and staff, legal professionals, and local business owners.
