Barnes encourages alumni to continue to support Alcorn
One of Alcorn State University’s most beloved alumni and the voice of Alcorn Braves football extended his love with a check presentation during pre-game festivities of Saturday’s football game versus Mississippi Valley State University.
Emanuel Dean Barnes joined 20th President, Dr. Felecia M. Nave on the 50-yard line to present a check for $10,000 in support of the Emanuel Barnes Endowed Scholarship Fund. Barnes established the fund to provide scholarships to well-deserving students at Alcorn State University.
Barnes believes alumni should continue to give and he is forever grateful to the university that has given him and his family so many opportunities.
“I believe that if alumni give more, we can put Alcorn in a better position to be successful,” said Barnes. “Every little bit helps. My family and I are happy to set up the endowment and to present this check to the university that has given so much to me and all of us.”
Nave applauded Barnes for his commitment to Alcorn and helping to encourage more alumni to give to the university.
“Mr. Barnes is the epitome of a faithful Alcornite,” said Nave. “His contributions not only by his example but also by his giving to the student body are what this university needs to propel their success. I am extremely encouraged and proud to see our alumni, faculty, staff and friends continue to support the university through giving.”
To qualify for the scholarship, a student must be classified as a sophomore or higher and maintain a 2.75 GPA. The scholarship is open to students in all academic programs at Alcorn.
