Dr. Robert Z. Carr Jr., dean of the School of Education and Psychology at Alcorn State University, has been accepted to participate in the summer 2013 session of the Institute for Management and Leadership in Education at the Harvard University Graduate School of Education.

Since he joined Alcorn in 2010, Dr. Carr has been credited with sparking a technological revolution in the School of Education and Psychology. He serves as the National Council for Accreditation of Teacher Education Board of Examiners (NCATE BOE) member and is one of only three NCATE BOE chairs in the State of Mississippi. Additionally, Dr. Carr serves as the Southern Association of Colleges and Schools Commission on Colleges reviewer.

Dr. Carr stated, “This opportunity will allow me to interface with educational leaders across the nation and world, contribute to the dialogue, and bring wonderful ideas back to Alcorn. I feel honored to be selected to attend such a prestigious institute and would like to thank our President, Dr. M. Christopher Brown II, and Executive Vice President and Provost, Dr. Samuel L. White for their support.”

The Institute for Management and Leadership in Education will be held June 16 – 28, 2013, and is designed for experienced administrators who are responsible for thinking strategically about their institutions’ agendas. Participants will be taught to understand which aspects of their institution’s mission and culture are critical to future success and how to close the gap between their best intentions and what they are actually able to accomplish. The Institute also serves as a valuable opportunity for mid-career professional assessment and renewal. Participants are able to reflect on their own leadership strengths and weaknesses with Harvard faculty and accomplished colleagues from across the country and around the world.
