A guided approach to student success in achieving academic goals in graduate school is the academic advisor. Whether you are a new graduate student or returning student, academic advisors are available to help students with academic decisions, help them with curriculum requirements, scheduling, plan their academic career path, meet graduation requirements, monitor degree plans, complete required forms, and other academic matters.
Academic advisors can offer unparalleled guidance to ensure graduate students are successful by addressing individual needs on a one-on-one basis. They can also help students find campus resources relevant to specific needs while attending graduate school.
It is important that students meet with their academic advisors each semester through progression to degree completion. Strong academic guidance each semester keeps students on track to graduate on time. Self-advisement is not encouraged. It can cause pitfalls for students that impact successful progression to degree completion. During the admission process, students are assigned to an academic advisor to guide them through the academic process during their enrollment at Alcorn State University. Advisors are available by appointment or scheduled walk-in times. They can also be contacted via telephone during office hours or by email.
