Students who hold a baccalaureate degree from an accredited institution of higher education may be admitted to a degree-seeking graduate program or admitted as nondegree-seeking. The graduate admission process seeks to select students whose applications document their outstanding academic scholarship, preparation, and potential for successful completion of advanced graduate study.
A. Degree-seeking Graduate Students
Degree-seeking graduate students may be admitted to a program that awards master’s or doctoral degrees.
B. Nondegree-seeking Graduate Students
Alcorn State University provides a variety of educational opportunities for students who wish to acquire knowledge, training, and professional skills beyond the baccalaureate degree. Nondegree‑seeking students who have been admitted to graduate study must have the prerequisites or background and experience needed for any course in which they seek to enroll. Nursing courses are not options for seeking non-Degree enrollment.
There is a limit to the number of course credit hours that an individual may accumulate while registered in nondegree status, there is a limit of 9 credit hours. Once the nine hours have been accumulated, to continue enrollment, a student must seek admission to a degree program.
Holders of baccalaureate or advanced degrees who seek licensure for the Master of Arts in Teaching may be admitted to enroll in the required courses to obtain a three-year license. Admission in this category does not ensure subsequent admission to a degree program. Teacher licensure students must adhere to the same admission requirements as degree seeking applicants.
C. Graduate Certificate Program
Holders of baccalaureate or advanced degrees who desire to complete pre-specified courses to attain a graduate-level, academic credit certificate in a specific area may be admitted through the graduate certificate program option. Students must meet admission requirements to enroll in this category.
