Alcorn President delivers blessing at Governor’s Prayer Luncheon
January 27, 2012 – Mission Mississippi held its 12th Annual Governor’s Prayer Luncheon today at the Jackson Convention Complex at 11:30 a.m. Alcorn State University’s President M. Christopher Brown II delivered the prayer for our 31st Governor, the honorable Phil Bryant. “It is indeed an honor to lift up our governor and elected officials in prayer,” said President Brown.
President Brown reminded us that we must pray for all who are in authority as stated in 1 Timothy 2: 1-2, I exhort therefore, that, first of all, supplications, prayers, intercessions, and giving of thanks, be made for all men; For kings, and for all that are in authority; that we may lead a quiet and peaceful life in all godliness and honesty.
“We are all here because we do not have the answers,” petitions President Brown. “What is the proper level of bond funding? When does human life begin? At what level should we invest in education or infrastructure or business? What is the budget aim for southwest Mississippi versus the Golden Triangle? To these and other questions – a multiplicity of mortal answers abound. Governor Bryant needs answers. Grant him and us answers.”
Mission Mississippi invites the community together across racial and denominational lines to pray for our governor and state leaders to encourage and demonstrate unity.
President Brown concluded, “Be with our governor and first lady. We ordain the health, healing, and prosperity of the Mississippi Delta and the Mississippi Gulf. We declare the growth, sustainability, and exceptionality of the Mississippi River Region and the Mississippi Hills.”
