Alcorn holds 1st Annual Anniversary Recognition Program, honors its employees
On Thursday, September 13, Alcorn State University held its first Annual Anniversary Recognition Program to celebrate its faculty and staff who have given five and more years of service. The program was held in the Gold Room of the Clinton Bristow Jr. Dining Facility.
“This program is being held to say thank you to our employees for their hard work and dedicate their service to the University selflessly,” stated Senior Vice President for Administration/ CFO Betty Roberts. “The longest serving employee we are celebrating today is Mr. Samuel Griffin, director of the University Bands. He has been with University for 45 years! We salute his loyalty and every year we will celebrate our employees who are in their 5th, 10th, 15th plus years – in five-year increments.”
The program began with CIO and Staff Senate President Donna Hayden welcoming the audience. Bishop Stanley B. Searcy Sr., New Hope the Vision Center, offered the invocation. Director of Human Resources Carla Williams addressed the audience and said, “Today, we pause to celebrate your commitment to excellence.” Dr. Derek Greenfield, director of Educational Equity and Inclusion, addressed the honorees and said, “What we do here at Alcorn, changes lives…I celebrate and thank you for the great things you do for this University.”
Motivational speaker for the Recognition Program was Mississippi State Representative Robert L. Johnson III. “For the students you touch here at Alcorn State University you make a difference, your work matters to them. Alcorn is doing great work for the state of Mississippi. It’s important that we continue to push forward.”
The program continued with a delicious lunch and a musical selection by Mario J. Radford, Heartsong Co.
Dwantra Anderson, benefits and compensation manager, and Valerie Douglas, Human Resources assistant for employment, presented awards to the honorees.
Georgia Moore, custodian, who was recognized for 30 years of service to Alcorn said, “I enjoyed the program. It feels so good to know that your service is appreciated.”
Henry Williams, mechanic, shared, “The biggest part of my life is connected with this university. I am thankful and proud to be a member of Alcorn for 40 years.”
In his closing remarks, Alcorn President M. Christopher Brown II expressed, “I am glad that this is not just a recognition program but an annual event to thank you for your service.”
