Alcorn to hold High School and Community College Day 2012

“Over 3,500 people registered to attend our High School and Community College Day on Saturday, November 10,” exclaimed Mr. Emanuel Barnes, director of Admissions at Alcorn State University. “During this day the University will have a chance to showcase its academic programs and support services to perspective students and parents.”

Administrators, faculty, staff and students will be available to answer all questions concerning admission, scholarships, financial aid, academic programs, extracurricular activities and residential life.

Registration for the program will begin at 8 a.m. in the Davey L. Whitney HPER Complex. Attendees will have a chance to review displays from each academic department, support services and Greek organizations. “As part of the registration process, they will also receive a $5 meal voucher that can be used at any of our concession stands, and a wrist band to attend the football game,” said Mr. Barnes. “They just have to make sure they enter through gate 8.”

At 11 a.m. a general assembly presided by Barnes and the Office of Admissions will begin followed by greetings by Vice President for Student Affairs E. Cheryl Ponder, and welcome by Miss Alcorn State University 2012-13 Airnecia Mills and SGA President Marcus Mercy.

The program will continue with the “Who’s Got Spirit” activity led Admissions, where the school rolls will be called out, and the school that has the most spirit will take home the coveted “spirit stick”.

The fun part of the program will feature the “unusual” fashion show where high school students make model toilet paper outfits, followed by the “real” fashion show where Alcorn students will model the latest fashion worn on campus. Greek Step Show and entertainment by the Sounds of Dyn-O-Mite and cheerleaders will continue the program.

At 12:30 p.m., the participants will have time for lunch and campus tours on their own.

The Braves vs. Texas Southern football game will be at 2:00 p.m. in the Jacks Spinks – Marino Casem Stadium.
