Alcorn sends condolences to family and friends of Susan Clayton Woodson, Hiram Revels great granddaughter
Alcorn State, Miss. (February 6, 2013) – President M. Christopher Brown II on behalf of Alcorn State University sends its deepest sympathy to the family of Susan Clayton Woodson as they mourn her death. She was 94.
“The Alcorn family mourns the loss of the last great granddaughter of America’s first African-American U.S. Senator and Alcorn’s first President Hiram Rhodes Revels,” stated President Brown. “She was a phenomenal woman who shared her love of and collection of art with us all.”
He added, “May her family be strengthened knowing her legacy and contributions to society will live on. The University will forever treasure the gifts Ms. Woodson presented to Alcorn during her visit in 2009 – a priceless collection of items that belonged to her family and President Revels himself.”
Woodson leaves to cherish her memory Harold W. Woodson, Jr., Elenor Kamuda, Jan Gilchrist, and grandchildren Meredith Kamuda, Melissa Waldon–Ongley, Charles Woodson, and William Gilchrist, and a host of loving friends and family.
