The Office of First Year Experience, Division of Student Affairs, recently hosted a Secret to Your First-Year College Success workshop in the Math and Science Building.

Addie Davis, academic advisor in the Newtie J. Boyd Academic Student Support Center, served as the presenter.

Dr. Patricia White, director of the First Year Experience Program, stated “The workshop was designed to provide first-year students with typical ideas on how to manage schoolwork, time, relationships, budget money and other important topics. Students were provided with techniques to help them become successful both in and outside of the classroom.”

In an interview held after the workshop, Evelyn Sullivan, a freshman from Vicksburg, Mississippi, shared, “I learned a lot about effective study habits, but more importantly how to utilize the opportunities that the University offers to the fullest extent”.

Betty Winfield, a sophomore from Roxie, Mississippi added, “I enjoyed the workshop because it helped me to understand that being successful depends on organizational skills and dedication”.
