Alcorn students participate in National Read Across America Day
On Friday, March 1, over 30 students from Alcorn State University participated in National Read Across America Day. They visited A. W. Watson Elementary School in Port Gibson, Mississippi, to provide a positive example by reading to the students in every classroom.
Organized by Dr. Derek Greenfield, director of Educational Equity and Inclusion, and led by Student Government Association President Marcus Mercy and Miss Alcorn 2012-13 Airnecia Mills, the student group included representatives from a variety of campus organizations, such as Diversity Champions, Student Ambassadors, Zeta Phi Beta, Delta Sigma Theta, and Kappa Alpha Psi.
“It was inspiring to see how much the students and even the teachers enjoyed our visit,” said Kaelon Walker, a senior business major from Oklahoma City, Oklahoma.
“Everyone loved the readers and they definitely touched the lives of these children,” said Dr. Bridget Muhammad, assistant principal.
