Alcorn’s annual Pork Producers Field Day slated for April 13
The Alcorn State University Swine Development Center will host its annual Pork Producers Field Day, Saturday, April 13, 2013, at 10:00 a.m. at the Swine Research and Development Farm, 2453 Hog Farm Road, Church Hill, Mississippi.
The program will include topics on general swine production and management, and practices required for successful commercial small scale hog production. All farmers and prospective farmers are encouraged to come and explore how swine operations can benefit from pasture pork production.
“This is a rare opportunity for swine producers and potential farmers to see our facility, learn practical hog production with the latest techniques, and see demonstration of skills in swine husbandry,” said Dr. Michael Ezekwe, Swine Development Center director.
Walter Jackson, grazing specialist for the USDA Natural Resources Conservation Service, will be the speaker for the event. In addition, information on the availability of loan sources for start-ups and/or for expansion of existing farms, record keeping methods, as well as hog marketing outlets will be presented. A tour of the facilities will be conducted, followed by demonstration of farming practices.
“This is part of our outreach support to assist producers to generate more income from hog production,” stated Dr. Ezekwe.
Registration for this free event will begin at 9:00 a.m. Lunch will be provided. For additional information, please contact Dr. Ezekwe at 601.877.2381 or [email protected] .
