Alcorn invites teachers to 2013 Ecology Education Workshop
The Department of Biological Sciences at Alcorn State University will host a K-12 Teacher Ecology Education Workshop at 9 a.m. – 3 p.m. on Saturday, June 29, 2013, on the Lorman campus. Participants will receive a certificate of attendance and a stipend.
“The purpose of the workshop is to present teachers with a comprehensive plan to integrate environmental science/ecology education into their existing curriculum and to increase the representation of African Americans in ecology careers,” stated Dr. Alex D. W. Acholonu, director, Ecology Education Workshop Program. “Attending the workshop will enrich teachers with new ideas and help them increase their students’ interest in environmental science/ecology.”
He added, “Teachers will also receive information on Alcorn’s Department of Biological Sciences. We hope they will share that information with students at their respective schools and encourage the kids to apply to Alcorn.”
The workshop is funded by a grant from the Mississippi Department of Environmental Quality (MDEQ).
