Alcorn State, Miss. (July 22, 2013) – LLJuna Weir, associate director of Athletics/senior woman administrator for Alcorn State University, was one of 40 chosen out of 185 applicants to participate in NCAA/NACWAA Institute for Administrative Advancement (IAA) which was held June 24-28, 2013, in Peachtree City, Georgia.

“The Institute is the premier ‘level one’ leadership development program for women in intercollegiate athletics administration,” explained Weir. “During the program we were exposed to lots of valuable information. Distinguished faculty including leaders representing all NCAA divisions and pioneers in women’s athletics helped prepare, empower and inspire participants to become successful administrators and advance within the profession.” Notable faculty members for the Institute were Jean Lenti Ponsetto, director of Athletics for DePaul University, Julie Soriero, director of Athletics for Massachusetts Institute of Technology, and Judy Sweet, former president of the NCAA.

The program objectives were to educate and provide information on the history of women’s athletics and Title IX, prepare female athletics administrators to manage issues currently facing intercollegiate athletics administrators, improve leadership skills, develop management skills and enhance self-actualization and awareness.
