Alcorn hires Ira Martin ’13 as EFNEP educator
Alcorn State University Extension Program (ASUEP), recently hired Ira Martin, a native of Bassfield, Mississippi, as the Expanded Food and Nutrition Education Program (EFNEP) educator, according to Dr. Dalton McAfee, extension administrator.
Martin oversees Adams and Jefferson counties. During summer 2013, he conducted nutrition education programs to assist limited-resource families in improving nutrition in these counties. Also, Martin taught at the Alcorn Children’s Defense Fund Freedom School Program where he promoted physical activity, the importance of adopting healthy lifestyles, and proper nutrition.
Martin graduated from Alcorn in 2013 with a bachelor’s degree in nutrition and dietetics. Currently, he is a graduate student in the Department of Education and Psychology at Alcorn.
Martin is a member of the American Dietetic Association. He possesses the Hazard Analysis and Critical Control Point (HAACP)/ServSafe Certification which allows him to promote food safety in food establishments.
