Baton Rouge alumni kick off Alcorn Tom Joyner School of the Month Campaign with $25,000 contribution

“Alcorn State University is thankful to Baton Rouge alumni for their recent contribution of $25,000 to support the Tom Joyner School of the Month Campaign,” said Marcus D. Ward, vice president for Institutional Advancement at Alcorn.

Mike Bledsoe ’90 and James Williams ’68 presented the collection of gifts to Alcorn President M. Christopher Brown II prior to the football game between the Braves and Southern University held in Baton Rouge October 26, 2013, where the Braves claimed a victory over Southern 44-38. They said, “The Chapter is elated that Alcorn was selected the School of the Month for November 2013, and we are happy to use this opportunity to support our talented students that represent Alcorn so well.”

The group made a ceremonial check presentation at Alcorn during the football game versus Alabama A&M on Saturday, November 2, 2013, and were joined by Jordyn Glover, a senior majoring in biology/pre-physical therapy, and DeAnte’ Spann, a junior majoring in elementary education, who have been named 2013 Tom Joyner Foundation Hercules Scholars for their exemplary performance throughout their college career.

“We commend Baton Rouge alumni for their continuous support and dedication,” stated Janice Gibson, director of Alumni Affairs and Development. “We encourage all our alumni and friends to show their support and contribute to the School of the Month Campaign. Help keep our students in school to become proud alumni.”
