Animal Science Club hosts Awesome Animal Adventure
Some 50 students from preschool through 5th gradeattended the Alcorn State University Animal Science Club’s Awesome Animal Adventure on Friday, April 4, 2014.
The program featured a Shetland pony and an alpaca, along with fun animal discussions and games. The children also engaged in ring tosses, face painting, putter golf and enjoyed tasty refreshments.
The event, according to Dr. Cassandra Vaughn, University veterinarian and Animal Science Club advisor, was a huge success. “The participants got a chance to learn more about animals by interacting with them and develop an appreciation for them.”
Author Owens, director of the Child Development Laboratory Center stated, “This event was a great field trip for our students. I was thrilled to see them enjoying the animals so much.”
Parents were also pleased with the outcome of the event. Sunus Holloway, father of toddler Sunia Holloway stated, “The Animal Adventure has done a great job of engaging the children. My daughter is learning about new animals and enjoying herself. That makes me happy.”
Ebony Campbell, whose five children attended the event stated, “This event is very educational. My children range in age from two to 11 years old and there is something for each of them here. They are all learning something new today about animals they don’t usually get to see.”
