President Rankins gives informative introduction to freshmen class

Alcorn State University President Dr. Alfred Rankins Jr. reminded the incoming freshmen class about staying true to the morals that their parents instilled in them.

“Make good decisions while you are attending school here. When your parents leave you here, don’t forget what they have taught you at home. Don’t let other people influence you to make bad decisions because you have your own mind. Always do what is right,” said President Rankins.

Honoring morals along with successfully completing college in four years were among the topics discussed by President Rankins at this year’s freshman welcome held in the James L. Bolden Campus Union Ballroom on Friday.

“You all will have a great experience here and we will provide you with all the tools you need to be successful. However, it is up to you to open that toolbox and utilize those tools to be successful. Success to us is graduating on time,” said President Rankins.

President Rankins mentioned how important it was for the students to have a balance between having fun and not losing focus on their studies.

“Study hard during these four years and take advantage of your opportunity. You all will have fun, but always remember the real purpose for being here.”
