RESOURCES FOR GRADUATE STUDENTS
A wide range of support services are available to graduate students to enhance their success in graduate school.

Academic Support

  • alcorn.edu – An academic portal to guide advisement and progression to degree completion.
  • Program Support Coordinator – provide guidance to students on degree plans and advisement, program requirements, progression to graduation requirements, important deadlines and timelines.
  • Thesis and Research Project Resources – Thesis, Non-Thesis, Capstone, and DNP manuals are available to students to guide the research process and development of manuscripts for the review process for publication.
  • Thesis/Non-Thesis/Capstone Submission Calendar – Published research deadlines for submitting manuscripts for review and publishing.
  • Institutional Review Board Application and Procedures – Link to the IRB website to provide research expectations to students using human subjects in their research.
  • Webpage – Provides academic information, resources, policies and procedures of Graduate Studies.
  • Writing Center – Students struggling with written assignments connect with a writing tutor for assistance with academic assignments and manuscripts.
  • Academic Support Lab – Campuswide services for student support in an array of academic courses.
  • Graduate Studies Archives – Research resource that houses published theses, non-theses, capstone projects, and DNP projects of graduates in various degree programs requiring research as an exit requirement.
  • Graduate Student Exit Survey – Feedback given by graduates related to their graduate experience for program improvement or enhancement.
  • Turnitin – An academic integrity resource for validating the authenticity of student academic assignments and manuscripts.
  • ASU Family Clinic – Healthcare promotion, disease prevention, and acute episodic outpatient medical care to meet needs of Alcorn students. Services provided include TB screening, immunizations required for clinical visits, dispense over-the-counter medication, family planning, treat acute and chronic illnesses, and make referrals to specialty physicians.

Funding

  • Establishing Scholarships and Financial Assistance – HBCU grant to support funding tuition need of STEM students in awarding scholarships and tuition assistance. Research assistantships are available for departments of Advanced Technology, Biology, Computer and Information Science, nursing, and STEM MBA. If you are applying for admission to a graduate STEM program, you might be eligible for a scholarship or tuition assistance.
  • Assistantships – Funding offered to students as a graduate assistant in a variety of disciplines and athletics to support tuition and fees.
  • Tuition Waivers – Tuition waivers are available for employees enrolled in graduate school using the Remission of Fee process. If you are an employee of ASU, you may be eligible for the fee waiver through the Remission of Fee process. Contact your immediate supervisor or the Office of Graduate Studies.

Professional Development

  • Workshops – Offer workshops, webinars, and guides to enhance navigation of academic programs and requirements of students based on need.

Student Services

  • Orientation – An activity to welcome new students to the university and university community.
  • Graduate Student Association – An organization to actively engage graduate students in campuswide activities and events.
  • Designated School Official (DSO) – Staff designated to provide international student services to assist in the success of international students in-person or digitally.
  • Global Programs – International Center that hosts a variety of educational and cultural services activities, and events to support international students.
  • How May We Help You? Customer Service Form – Students can request information, conduct inquiries, , ask for assistance with an issue, express a concern, or provide feedback about their graduate experience.
  • Student Computer Center – A lab environment in the Office of Graduate Studies dedicated to students to use for a variety of admission, academic, and graduation activities.
  • Customer Service Satisfaction Survey – Survey completed by students based on on-site office visit or digital communications to provide feedback on graduate and related services.

University Resources for Graduate Students

  • D. Boyd Library – Offers various digital research tools and content resources, theses and projects archives, ProQuest publication of theses.
  • Graduate Housing – Residential Housing is available to graduate students.
  • Office of Financial Aid – Provides student loans for eligible students to support tuition and fees.
  • Health Services – Reviews and validates immunization records of students for admission, provides healthcare and disability services for students.
  • ASU Bookstore – Resources to support academic, social, and cultural needs of students such digital or hardcover textbooks, computers and hardware, software, technology, supplies, outerwear, bedding, and décor.
  • ASU Goldcard – Alcorn State University ID card with digital photo to access student events, goods, and services both on and off campus.
  • Counseling Center – Student counseling services to address a variety of services and programs, short-term individual counseling, group counseling, crisis intervention, referral services, and consultation for students and family, if needed. Mental health services are also available for students.
