Langston’s Athletic Director to take helm of athletics at Alcorn, personnel changes announced

February 24, 2012 – Alcorn State University has chosen Patric David Simon as the new athletic director and he said on Friday that he is elated to have been selected to “serve such a prestigious institution”.

Members of the Alcorn search committee said they were impressed with Simon throughout the entire process. “We all admired his unwavering commitment to student athletes,” states co-chair and ASU National Alumni Association President Percy Norwood Jr.

For the past three years Simon has served as the athletic director at Langston University. During his tenure, the institution won a grand total of 10 conference championships between the Red River Athletic Conference and Central State Football League.

Simon is known for two things said President M. Christopher Brown, “Alcorn recognized and admired his ability in leading programs to post season championships and most importantly, his devotion to systems that promote student athletes in academic excellence and APR success. We welcome him to the Alcorn family.”

Simon has also held positions at Lincoln University, Kutztown University, Northeastern Illinois University, and Fayetteville State University.

President Brown announced last year zero tolerance in athletics and as a result on yesterday “Forced attrition occurred in Alcorn athletics.” Dr. Brown has named Mr. Todd McDaniel, a native of Hazelhurst, Mississippi, as the coordinator of football operations. He is an Alcorn alum, former principal and head football coach of Hazelhurst High School. He has past experience with the Minnesota Vikings and served as head coach of Wingfield High School.

President Brown continued that “Alcorn will be excellent in all we do – academics, access, agriculture, and athletics. I am beyond optimistic about athletics program.”
