Dr. Derek Greenfield keynotes two youth conferences this week
Dr. Derek Greenfield, director of Diversity and Equity Engagement at Alcorn, currently tours the country to encourage young students to pursue academic success and higher education. He engages youth with discussions on goal-setting, personal motivation, cultural diversity, team-building, hip-hop culture, and leadership skills.
On February 29, Dr. Greenfield gave keynote address and facilitated a motivational workshop for the 10th annual SCORE – Students of Color Opting to Reach Excellence, a high school conference for students of color held at Highline Community College, Des Moines, Washington. He also provided an inspiring session “Today is the First Day of the Rest of Your Life: Planning Your Future for Success” for Honor’s Colloquy students, and provided a dynamic presentation in the Inter-Cultural Center “The Next Step to Success: Motivation and Diversity for Life!” for over ninety students, staff and faculty.
Another Dr. Greenfield’s speaking engagement this week will be keynoting the Saving Rural America and Youth Conference in Louisville, Mississippi, on Saturday, March 3, where he will hold an “Attitudes are Contagious… Make Yours Worth Catching!” session.
Later this month, students of Everett Community College, Everett, Washington, will have an exciting opportunity to be inspired by Dr. Greenfield during the Students of Color Career Conference that will take place on March 29.
Dr. Greenfield, a motivational speaker with over 20 years of experience, and over 500 presentations held in over 30 states and abroad, including keynoting a conference in the Kingdom of Tonga, is still working hard to improve his craft and reach more people. He has worked with companies such as McDonald’s Corporation and Hilton Hotels, sports teams such as the NBA’s Milwaukee Bucks, and other universities such as MIT and the University of Texas.
Dr. Greenfield shared, “It is indeed a blessing and an honor to be invited to speak. I always get excited when people enjoy the experience and share with me how much they benefited from it. My goal is to engage, educate, enlighten, and entertain every audience!”
Dr. Greenfield joined Alcorn in 2011, and since his first days on campus he has been actively promoting the work of diversity and equity among the University community and beyond. “I love being able to speak on campus, around the area, and across the country to represent Alcorn and to promote the work of diversity and equity. Alcorn has a rich history of serving the community, and we want to continue enhancing the positive image of our beloved institution. By offering valuable motivational and educational resources, we can make a profound difference in the lives of others and hopefully recruit more students to attend Alcorn.”
