Alcorn’s Acholonu attends International Congress, publishes two papers

Dr. Alex D.W. Acholonu, professor of biology at Alcorn State University, recently attended the International Congress of Tropical Medicine and Malaria held September 23-27, 2012, in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil. The theme of the Congress was “Neglected Tropical Diseases: a New Challenge for the XXI Century”.

Dr. Acholonu presented a paper on the “Prevalence of Toxoplasma gondii infection in chickens (Gallus domesticus) from McComb, Mississippi, USA”.
“The purpose of the study,” stated Dr. Acholonu. “Was to find out if this parasitic protozoa is prevalent in chickens from Mississippi and to compare its frequency of occurrence with those in pigs and goats in Mississippi previously reported.”

Dr. Acholonu also published two articles “Water as a Renewable Energy Source and Environmental Issues” and “Issues in Nuclear Energy Production and Usage with Special Reference to USA and Nigeria” in the Proceedings of the conference on Renewable Energy for National Industrial Growth held in Nigeria, August 7-11, 2011.
