Alcorn’s Carson to serve on ETS’ study for new Praxis Academic Skills for Educators test
Dr. LaShundia Carson, associate professor in the Department of Education and Psychology, has been nominated by Mississippi Department of Education to participate in a multistate standard-setting panel of faculty members who prepare teachers. The standard-setting panels will meet in Princeton, New Jersey.
The study is being conducted by Educational Testing Service (ETS) for the new Praxis Academic Skills for Educators test.
“The purpose of this study is to recommend new passing scores for Praxis I and revise the test for the state of Mississippi,” explained Dr. Carson. “Additionally, participants on the panel will review the tests, provide independent judgments, and engage in panel-wide discussions as each panel considers the minimum score needed for each test – reading, writing and mathematics – to be considered qualified to enter a teacher preparation program.”
The test will be developed to align with the career and college readiness components of the Common Core State Standards in English Language Arts/Literacy and Mathematics. The new edition will be administered by ETS in the 2013-2014 testing year. The study will be conducted on ETS’ Princeton Campus at the Chauncey Conference Center.
