Alcorn students reach semi-finals of Regional Voice Competition
Five Alcorn State University students recently participated in the National Association of Teachers of Singing (NATS) Regional Conference and Voice Competition held at Louisiana State University in Baton Rouge, Louisiana.
They competed against other voice majors from colleges and universities in Arkansas, Louisiana and Mississippi. The students also attended master classes and presentations given by NATS music professionals.
Three students who study voice under Dr. Byron Johnson, assistant professor of music, Fine Arts Department, reached the semi-finals: Kenton Walker, Jonathan Hood and Birdon Mitchell.
“These students have shown that hard work and a willingness to push themselves beyond their limits is necessary for excellence,” said Dr. Johnson. “I am very proud of them. This has been a great experience for them. Our students represented themselves and Alcorn very well.”
