Alcorn offers Praxis preparation classes online this summer

Two separate courses covering important aspects of the Praxis tests are being offered during the first summer session online through Alcorn State University.

Each class will be for one undergraduate credit. The Praxis I course ED 401.2OL covers the essay, grammar and reading portions of the Pre-Professional Skills Test. The Praxis II class ED 402.2OL covers the multiple choice and short-answer questions on the Principles of Learning and Teaching (PLT) Test; the course also provides preparation for the separate, multiple-choice content area test that students must pass in order to receive a teaching license for the state of Mississippi.

“We have set up these courses in the summer to provide assistance to those students desiring to do well on these critical tests,” noted Dr. Malinda Butler, chair of the Department of Education and Psychology. “The classes are offered online so that both traditional and non-traditional students can have convenient access to them.”

The classes will be taught by Dr. Peter R. Malik, professor in the Department of English and Foreign Languages at Alcorn State. Dr. Malik has many years of experience in teaching strategies for taking standardized tests given for college and graduate school entrance as well as for state licensure.
